Reciprocal links - reciprocal link building

Reciprocal links and link building perform a variety of functions for a business.

The best websites to establish reciprocal links with, to benefit your website, will have the following characteristics; 

1. A higher (or at least an equivalent) page rank as your website - higher rank websites may be less willing to trade reciprocal links unless the inclusion of your website is seen as a positive benefit to its' visitors.

2. It will be related to the products/service that your business offers but not a direct competitor.

3. The links page button should appear on the front page, rather than an obscure page contained within the website.

4.  A links page with a small number of relevant/useful reciprocal links is more likely to be viewed by a website visitor than a large 'directory' of reciprocal links .

5. On viewing a links page, if you do not believe you will be able to appear near the top of a links page (or near the top of an appropriate section) there may be little benefit to your website in pursuing a link.

Reciprocal links can help to improve the page rank of a website over time, but building links with a large number of irrelevant websites will not either help with page rank or provide visitors to your website with a 'reference' page of useful websites that are likely to be of interest to them.  

Reciprocal links should be viewed as an additional 'route to market' - the inclusion of your website should confer benefit to the linking site, for it to be viewed as a suitable partner and vice-versa. In such circumstances, visitors are more likely to click on the links and become bona-fide customers. 

The inclusion of reciprocal links or one-way links may be more appropriate and natural as part of the page text, rather than locating on a specific links page. When requesting links with 'smaller' sites, it may be appropriate to offer this in return for the inclusion of your link on a specific page, rather than being consigned to the links page.

There is nothing wrong with including one-way links from your website to another, if it genuinely improves the information and quality of experience to visitors of your website. Any websites produced by us will include one-way links to sites considered to be of some added value to browsers, improving the informational experience of visiting the website.
